Weather Update: A severe cold wave has intensified across the country, causing mercury to dip rapidly and bringing chill to most areas. With the extreme weather conditions engulfing more than half of India, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for cold wave and dense fog in several states.

According to the Meteorological Department’s forecast, the weather in Jammu and Kashmir is expected to remain dry until December 17, followed by cloudy skies on December 18. Residents are expected to witness light rain and snowfall around December 20 and 21. Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for light to moderate rain in Tamil Nadu and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Cold Wave And Dense Fog In UP, Delhi And Bihar

The weather department has forecast dense to very dense fog in the morning hours of December 16 and 17 across isolated areas of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Dense fog is also likely to prevail in many regions of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Himachal Pradesh today.

In view of the adverse weather conditions, the Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for a cold wave in parts of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and southern Uttar Pradesh.

Rain Alert In Tamil Nadu

While North India is witnessing severe cold wave conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light rain in Tamil Nadu. A yellow alert for rain has been issued for Tamil Nadu and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Jagran.com reported.

Snowfall In Jammu And Kashmir And Uttarakhand

According to the IMD, the weather in Jammu and Kashmir is expected to remain dry until December 17, with chances of cloudy skies expected on December 17 and 18. The onset of Chillai Kalan on December 20 and 21 is expected to bring the season's first spell of light rain and snowfall.

Additionally, parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are also expected to receive snowfall and rain over the next few days.

Delhi Weather Update

A cold wave has intensified its grip on the national capital, prompting the India Meteorological Department to issue a yellow alert for dense fog in the morning hours on Tuesday. According to the Meteorological Department, relief is expected from tomorrow with winds anticipated to blow at 10-15 kilometres per hour. The forecast suggests light fog will persist on December 17.
