Tamil Nadu Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday stated that several districts of Tamil Nadu are set to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next few days. The weather department stated that most of the regions might witness a cyclone. It has asked the district administration to make all the arrangements, especially for the residents living in the lower regions. The continuous rainfall is also likely to lead to several issues like waterlogging and power outages in the key cities. The weather department has advised the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outings to avoid any inconveniences.

While providing details, the weather department stated that several districts, including Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, and Mayiladuthurai, are likely to witness extremely heavy rain in the upcoming days. Apart from this, the IMD has also issued a red alert for other districts such as Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvallur, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, and Ramanathapuram. Along with heavy rainfall, these districts are also set to witness thunderstorms and gusty winds.

The IMD also stated that the capital city, Chennai, will receive moderate rainfall in the upcoming days, leading to the inconveniences. The administration of several districts, including Chennai, Chengalpet, Tiruvallur, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, and Mayiladuthurai, has declared a holiday for schools and colleges on Wednesday.

"By noon tomorrow, there is a possibility that the system will strengthen into a depression. This is expected to occur off the coasts of north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and south Andhra Pradesh," B Amudha, Director of the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai, told the reporters. "Right now, the system that was a deep low-pressure area over the southeast Arabian Sea on October 20 is persisting with the same intensity," Amudha added.
