Tamil Nadu Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday stated that several districts of Tamil Nadu are likely to receive light to heavy rainfall for the next few days. The weather department stated that the continuous rainfall is likely to reduce the temperature by two to four degrees Celsius, providing major relief from the scorching heat. While the coastal regions are likely to witness heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms and gusty winds, the other regions are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall. The IMD has advised the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outings to avoid any inconveniences.

While providing details, the weather department stated that several regions of Tamil Nadu, including Western Ghats, Puducherry, Karaikal, Nilgiris, Tenkasi, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Theni, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Ariyalur, and Perambalur, are likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall for the next few days.

Apart from rainfall, these regions are also likely to witness thunderstorms and gusty winds with speeds of 50-60 kmph. The IMD also stated that the capital city, Chennai, is also likely to witness light rain and a gentle breeze, providing relief from the heat.

The weather department stated that while the maximum temperature is likely to be calculated at 35 degrees Celsius, the minimum temperature is expected to be calculated at 29 degrees Celsius. The humidity of the city is expected to remain around 72 per cent for the next few days. While the rainfall is likely to reduce the temperature, it is also likely to lead to other issues, including waterlogging and power cuts.

The IMD also stated that apart from Tamil Nadu, several other states, including Kerala, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, and Bihar, are also likely to receive light to heavy rainfall at least till July 20. The weather department has also advised the residents of the coastal regions to limit their financial activities and not go near water bodies during the rainfall.
