Tamil Nadu Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that several districts of Tamil Nadu are likely to witness moderate to heavy rainfall for the next few days. As per the weather department, these regions will receive rain due to prevailing weather systems over the Bay of Bengal. The continuous rainfall is likely to reduce the temperature by two to four degrees Celsius, providing relief from heat. The IMD has advised the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outings to avoid any inconveniences.
As per the weather department, a low-pressure area persisting over the southwest Bay of Bengal is likely to lead to rainfall in various regions of Tamil Nadu. Along with heavy rain, several regions of the state are also expected to witness thunderstorms, strong surface winds, and lightning. The continuous rainfall is also likely to lead to waterlogging, leading to inconveniences to the commuters.

"After five days, the westerlies may arrive due to the onset of monsoon. Weather models show this may lead to a rise in temperature over north TN," the IMD official was quoted as saying by the Times of India. The weather department stated that several districts, including Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Coimbatore, and the Nilgiris, are expected to witness heavy rainfall for the next two to three days.
While providing details, it stated that several regions are likely to witness rainfall on May 18, including Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Sivaganga, Pudukkottai, Tiruchirappalli, Karur, Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri, and Krishnagiri.

Apart from this, several other regions, including Coimbatore, Tiruppur's hilly areas, Nilgiris, Theni, Dindigul, and Madurai, are also expected to receive rainfall on May 19. The residents of the capital city, Chennai, are also likely to witness rainfall at least till May 23. The residents have been advised to limit their outings during the rainfall to avoid inconveniences.
