The weather department stated that while the coastal regions are likely to witness heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms, Chennai and nearby districts are expected to receive light rainfall. It further stated that the rainfall will reduce the temperature by two to four degrees Celsius, providing relief from the scorching heat.

While providing details, the weather department stated several districts, including Pudukkottai, Nilgiris, Theni, Tenkasi, Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tiruvallur, Chennai, Kanchipuram, Vellore, Ranipet, and Ramanathapuram, are expected to receive rainfall till June 8.\

It further stated that along with rainfall, these districts are also expected to witness thunderstorms and gusty winds. The IMD has advised the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outings to avoid any inconveniences. The weather department further advised the residents of the coastal region to limit their financial activities.

The weather department stated that cyclonic conditions are leading to changes in weather, adding that the temperature in Chennai is likely to surge after June 12. It added that the formation of an upper air cyclonic circulation over South Gujarat and adjoining areas has led to the weather change.

It stated that the maximum temperature was recorded at more than 37 degrees Celsius in several districts, including Trichy, Palayamkottai, Karur, Erode, Tiruttani, Chennai, Cuddalore, and Thanjavur.
