TCS Layoffs: The Labour Ministry has reportedly summoned Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) on Friday over the firm's layoffs and delays in hiring for the 600 vacant posts. The ministry summoned the firm after the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) filed a complaint with the office of the Chief Labour Commissioner (CLC), reported CNBC Awaaz. The ministry has summoned the top IT firm to get the detailed status of the two major issues. Earlier on July 28, NITES slammed TCS for its recent moves by labeling them “inhumane", “unethical," and “outright illegal". TCS recently announced that the layoff will affect 2 per cent of the workforce, adding that the decision is taken to ensure that the firm is "future ready".
Mass layoff is unethical: NITES
NITES president Harpreet Singh Saluja stated that the employees received the mail regarding the layoffs without any prior notice. He further stated that the firm decided to terminate thousands of employees without giving them due notice or any intimation to the government. “Most of those affected are mid and senior-level professionals who have served the company loyally for 10 to 20 years. The email was callously sent on a Sunday evening, without prior notice or any formal communication process in place," Saluja stated in his complaint.
"This mass layoff is not only unethical and inhumane; it is outright illegal. TCS has planned to terminate thousands of employees without giving them due notice or any prior intimation to the government, all of which are mandatory under existing Indian labour laws," he added. However, TCS has assured that the affected employees will receive multiple benefits according to the company's guidelines.

Employees will get benefits: TCS
While providing details, TCS CEO and MD K Krithivasan, in an interview with Moneycontrol, stated that the layoffs will be handled "gradually" and "compassionately". He further stated that the layoff has nothing to do with AI giving productivity gains. Krithivasan stated that the selected employees will first be contacted, and the firm will also try to deploy them in some other departments.
