In a heartfelt tribute, IAF Wing Commander Afhsan on Sunday paid her last respects to Wing Commander NamanshSyal, her husband, who died in a fatal crash of Tejas at the Dubai Air Show.

The video of her has surfaced on social media, where she can be seen saluting her husband in uniform while fighting her tears. Syal was cremated with full military honours after his body was brought to his native village, Patialkar, in Himachal Pradesh's Kangra.

The last rites were performed in accordance with all traditional practices, including the gun salute, procession, and wreath-laying ceremony.

He died in the crash on Friday, after which his body was brought to Chennai on Saturday and to his ancestral village on Sunday.

Calling Syal a dedicated fighter pilot and thorough professional, the Indian Air Force said that he served the nation with unwavering commitment, exceptional skill and an unyielding sense of duty.

The IAF said, "His dignified persona earned him immense respect through a life devoted to service, and was visible in the send-off attended by UAE officials, colleagues, friends, and the officials of the Indian Embassy. The IAF stands in solidarity with his family in this hour of profound grief and honours his legacy of courage, devotion and honour. May his service be remembered with gratitude".

Wing Commander Syalis survived with his wife and a five-year-old daughter. Villagers, who gathered to have a last look at Syal, expressed their grief over the loss of one of their gems and paid their respects.

Pankaj Chadha, who studied at the same schools as Wing Commander Syal, was quoted by news agency ANI, saying, "I have also studied in the same school as Namansh, Sainik School Sujanpur Tira. We have lost one of our gems. He was the pride of our school. We will go to his native village, Patialkar. He made all of us very proud," Chadha.
