Tejas Jet Crash: The Indian Air Force pilot who lost his life in the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA Mk-1) crash at the Dubai Airshow on Friday, November 21, was Wing Commander Namansh Syal.
The crash took place at 2:08 PM (local time) when the Tejas fighter jet was performing an aerial manoeuvre in front of an international audience at the Dubai Airshow.

What Happened At Dubai Airshow?
The Tejas fighter jet crashed at 2:08 PM while performing an aerial manoeuver before an international audience at the Dubai Airshow. According to eyewitnesses, the jet pulled up into a planned loop, flipped into an inverted position, and began to descend, a routine sequence that typically ends with the aircraft climbing again to complete a clean arc.
This time, however, the aircraft failed to regain altitude and crashed within seconds, erupting into a thick plume of black smoke, News18 reported.
Preliminary assessments suggest that the jet has been too low or too slow to regain control after flipping upside down, allowing no room for recovery.
Who Was Wing Commander Namansh Syal?
Wing Commander Namansh Syal, a young officer from Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh, was known for his professionalism and calm precision in the cockpit, the News18 report added. Syal was flying India’s indigenously built Tejas during a high-profile aerobatic display at the Dubai Airshow when the tragedy occurred.
According to Jagran.com, Syal was married to Afshan, who is also an officer in the Indian Air Force.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu took to X to express his grief over the death of Wing Commander Syal.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Sukhu wrote “The news of the demise of Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district’s brave son Naman Syal Ji in the Tejas aircraft accident at the Dubai Air Show is extremely heartbreaking and heart-rending. The nation has lost a brave, dutiful, and courageous pilot.”
