Telangana Assembly Election 2023: Voting in the state has begun at 7 AM on Thursday and the counting of the votes will be done on Sunday, December 3. Telangana is the last among all the five states that went to polls in November including Mizoram, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. Meanwhile, for Telangana, it is a triangular battle with all three parties ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Congress looking to bag victory.

Over 2,290 candidates will decide the fate of these three parties. A total of 35,655 polling stations have been set up in the state in the 119 constituencies where voting is being conducted today. Incumbent Chief Minister and the founder of BRS, K Chandrashekar Rao, or KCR, is contesting from two seats: his original seat, Gajwel, and Kamareddy.

Telangana minister K T Rama Rao, the son of KCR is fighting from the Sircilla seat. He registered a huge victory on the seat during the 2018 elections by a significant margin of over 89,000 votes. Both, Etela Rajender and Revanth Reddy are also contesting from two seats, with Etela in Huzurabad and Revanth Reddy in Kodangal.

While the BJP looks upon on winning the votes and coming to power for the first time in the state, the Congress has also high hopes to bag victory on the basis of the "momentum" of the past few months. The saffron party aspires to establish its first government in Telangana, while the grand old party aims to leverage recent momentum, despite facing an almost 18 per cent gap in voting percentage compared to previous assembly elections.

Meanwhile, if KCR wins another battle, it will be for the first time that a Chief Minister from a southern state won three consecutive elections.
