Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Monday stated that the OBC population in the state is 56.36 per cent and affirmed the government's commitment to ensuring 42 per cent reservation for this group in education, jobs, and employment.

In a post on X, CM Reddy said, "Telangana is proud to lead the social revolution in #India. It is my honour to announce the fulfilment of the longest-pending demand of subaltern groups since Indian Independence—the yearning of our brothers and sisters belonging to the Backward Castes to be counted and recognised in an official census has finally been realised."

"Today, as the Leader of the Telangana Legislative Assembly and as Chief Minister, I solemnly declare that, based on the most scientific, methodically rigorous, and painstaking efforts of our people, we can state that the OBC population in #Telangana is 56.36 per cent," CM Reddy said.

"We are now committed to ensuring 42 per cent reservations for this group in all walks of life—education, jobs, employment, and political representation. Be on the right side of history and let each one of us become a champion of this historic move," he added.

Earlier in the day, CM Revanth Reddy stated that he would take "proactive measures" to "achieve" 42 per cent reservation for the Backward Classes (BCs) in education and employment. He also appealed to all parties to come together and meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue.

He stated that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had promised to enhance BC reservations to 42 per cent if the Congress was voted to power. Soon after assuming office, the government launched the BC caste census on 4 February 2024, CM Reddy said, as per an official statement from his office.

Revanth Reddy also expressed his gratitude to everyone who actively participated in the caste survey. "We wanted to send a strong message to Telangana society that the entire Assembly stands united on increasing the BC quota. Thanks to everyone cooperating with the government in this historic moment," CM Reddy said.

He further noted that the previous government had sent a proposal to the Governor to increase BC reservations to 37 per cent. "This government is withdrawing the earlier proposal and submitting a new proposal for 42 per cent reservation for BCs in education, employment, and political opportunities," he stated.

CM Reddy also highlighted that 4 February is observed as 'Social Justice Day,' as the government adopted a resolution for enhancing the BC quota on this day in the Assembly. "After gathering opinions and views from various sections, the state government introduced this bill to provide 42 per cent reservation to BCs," CM Reddy stated, as per the CMO.

"As the leader of the House, I assure you that I will take proactive measures to achieve 42 per cent BC reservation. I appeal to all party leaders to unite and meet the Prime Minister on this issue," Reddy said.

"Let us also seek the necessary legal assistance to increase the BC reservation to 42 per cent. I request Union Ministers Kishan Reddy, Bandi Sanjay, and the BJP floor leader to take responsibility for securing an appointment with PM Modi. Additionally, we must request Rahul Gandhi to raise this issue in Parliament. I am entrusting TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud with the responsibility of arranging a meeting with Rahul Gandhi soon," CM Reddy added.

"As the leader of the House, I also assure you that the BC census report is 100 per cent accurate. It is everyone's responsibility to ensure the BC bill is passed in Parliament. We will not remain silent until the 42 per cent reservation is achieved for BCs. We are committed to the Kamareddy Declaration," CM Reddy asserted.
