New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday announced that the ongoing lockdown in the state has been extended till May 7. He said that the Cabinet will review the situation on May 5 and then decide the further course of action. 

Briefing reporters after a state cabinet meeting, he said the lockdown would be implemented in a tough manner in the state. He also said food delivery apps would not be allowed to operate in the state from Monday.

Rao made a slew of announcements to ensure that ration is delivered to the poor abd migrant workers in the state. 

"Government will provide ration and Rs 1500 to migrant labourers who have families in Telangana and ration to those who stay alone. The Cabinet has approved a 10 per cent increase in gross salaries of police personnel who are working without caring for their lives," he announced. 

The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state has reached 858 which include 21 casualties. So far, 186 patients have been cured. 

On the other hand, the total number of cases in India have topped 16,000-mark while the death toll has rised to 519. 

E-commerce companies have been prohibited from selling non-essential items during the lockdown, as conditional relaxations in select sectors outside the coronavirus hotspot areas to kickstart the battered economy come into effect from Monday.

With states gearing up to revive limited business activity after the Centre announced easing some of the curbs on April 15, Union minister Prakash Javadekar on Sunday said more relief measures are bound to come if the country continues to manage the coronavirus crisis well, asserting, "you cannot (have) lockdown permanently".

While Maharashtra government said that industrial activity in the green and orange COVID-19 zones in the state will be resumed in a restricted manner, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal decided not to relax lockdown restrictions which is in force till May 3 as of now since coronavirus appears to be spreading at a "faster pace" in the national capital. The government will assess the situation again after one week, he said.

The Congress-led Punjab government also denied any relaxation in the lockdown till May 3.  

The Centre today said that labourers, who are stranded in different parts of the country due to the lockdown, will be allowed to go to their respective places of work within a state with certain conditions. It, however, made it clear there will be no inter-state movement of workers during the lockdown.
