Telangana Andhra Weather Update: At least 31 people died, and over 400 trains were cancelled in two states as torrential rainfall created havoc in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The continued heavy downpour since Monday morning has inundated thousands of acres of crops, disrupted road and railway transportation and led to extremely long power cuts in rural as well as urban centres in both - Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Andhra Pradesh, which received 27 per cent more rainfall than the yearly average in just 48 hours, witnessed waterlogging and flood-like situations in parts across NTR, Guntur, Krishna, Eluru, Palnadu, Bapatla and Prakasam districts.
In Telangana, 16 people lost their lives due to heavy rainfall across districts, including Hyderabad. The Revanth Reddy-led state government has estimated a damage of over Rs 5000 Crore and demanded an immediate central assistance of Rs 2000 Crores.

1. Many districts across Telangana announced the closure of schools and other educational institutions owing to the heavy rainfall and red alert issued by IMD. While Nirmal and Nizamabad district authorities declared the holiday for September 3, others are expected to follow suit.
2. The rain fury has caused significant disruptions to the railway services in the state. Due to inundation, gravel under a railway track near Kesamudram washed away, halting the operations of passengers as well as goods trains on the track.
3. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has urged Prime Minister Modi to visit the severely affected state and declare the Telangana rains as a national calamity. He also declared an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh for the people who died in rain-related incidents.
4. Andhra Pradesh witnessed a severe downpour which killed at least 17 people in the state. Over 4 lakh people are expected to take a hit as the rainfall continues to lash parts of the state.
5. A total of 275 trains were cancelled in Vijayawada due to the incessant rainfall. The district was among the worst-hit parts of the state.
6 Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu visited flood-hit regions in the state and interacted with the affected people. He visited the Ajit Singh Nagar in Vijayawada, the worst affected area, thrice within 24 hours.
During one of the visits, Naidu personally distributed food packets to the people from a boat. He also visited other affected places such as Krishnalanka, Ibrahimpatnam, Ferry, Jupudi and Mulapadu.
