West Bengal Governor Ananda Bose has issued clarification over allegations of unveiling his own statue in Kolkata last week. Bose, in a clarification post on X, said that he had no prior information regarding the statue, and it was presented to him at the event only.

Kolkata Raj Bhavan stated that many sculptors and painters present their artwork to the governor. In a similar case, a creative sculptor had created a sculpture of Governor and later presented it to him. "In some media reports, it has come out that HG (Honourable Governor) has 'unveiled his own statue' at Raj Bhavan. The fact is as follows: Many artists submit their artistic creations to HG. Many painters made HG's portraits and presented them to him. Similarly, a creative sculptor had created a sculpture of HG and presented it to HG," the Kolkata Raj Bhavan clarified. "This has been unfortunately described as unveiling his own statue," the post added.

The statue was made by sculptor Partha Saha and was unveiled at the Indian Museum in Kolkata on 23. Indian Museum, in its post, revealed that the statue was unveiled by Bose himself. "In alignment with HE's vision to foster creativity and cultural appreciation, we proudly hosted the unveiling of a bust of the Dr. C. V. Ananda Bose, Hon'ble Governor of West Bengal. Sculpted by the talented Shri Partha Saha of the Indian Museum, it was unveiled by H.E. himself," the post on X stated. Bose could be seen standing near the statue in the posts shared by the Indian Museum.

The post immediately drew attention from social media, where many criticised him for being self-obsessed. Most of the critiques belonged to the ruling Trinmool Congress (TMC), led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The trolls claimed that the governor unveiled his own statue to get attention and termed it a publicity stunt.
