Thiruvananthapuram-Tambaram Amrit Bharat Express Train: In a major boost to inter-state mobility between Kerala and the Southern districts of Tamil Nadu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off a new Amrit Bharat express train connecting Kerala’s state capital, Thiruvananthapuram, with Tambaram. This new non-AC train will make train journeys for the lower and middle-income groups more accessible and affordable. It will also connect major industrial, educational, and healthcare hubs in Tamil Nadu like Tambaram, Villupuram and Madurai. The train will be maintained by the Southern Railway Division of the Indian Railways.
Thiruvananthapuram-Tambaram Amrit Bharat Express: Train Number, Frequency
- While going from Thiruvananthapuram to Tambaram, the train will operate with the number 16122.
- On the return leg, the train will operate with the number 16121.
- On the way, it will run through key Tamil Nadu cities such as Madurai, Dindigul, Tiruchchirappalli, and Srirangam.
- The train will run twice a week. From Thiruvananthapuram, the train will depart every Thursday, while from Tambaram, it will depart every Wednesday.
- The train from Thiuvananthapuram will depart at 10:40 am on Thursday and will arrive at 11:45 pm on the same day.
- On the return journey, the train will depart Tambaram at 5:30 pm on Wednesday and reach Thiruvananthapuram at 8:00 am on Thursday.
Thiruvananthapuram-Tambaram Amrit Bharat Express: Ticket Price
The ticket prices for the 768 km journey are:
- Second Class (General): Approx. Rs 209-215 (unreserved)
- Sleeper Class: Rs 500-515
Note: There are no AC or chair cars on the Amrit Bharat Express Trains.
