The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) heavily came down on the Trinamool Congress (TMC), and the Mamata Banerjee government, following an attack on an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team in North 24 Paraganas district. The BJP, referred to the TMC as having a 'Talibani Mindset and Culture,' condemning the incident.
Shehzad Poonawalla, the BJP national spokesperson, referred to Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury's statement characterising TMC as carrying a 'Talibani Mindset and Culture.' Poonawalla questioned the Congress party's stance, criticising its alliance with the TMC in the INDIA bloc despite acknowledging concerns about democracy in West Bengal.

"TMC means 'Talibani Mindset and Culture' and this has been confirmed by no less than the tallest leader of Congress party in Lok Sabha and in West Bengal - Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury...He has demanded the president's rule in West Bengal," Poonawala said.
Poonawalla called for clarity from Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi on whether they agree with Chowdhury's assessment or not.
"On one hand, Congress allies with TMC, and on the other hand, their tallest leader says that democracy is in peril in West Bengal...But the Congress party's central leadership has nothing to say...Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi must tell whether they agree with Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury or they do not agree with him. What kind of alliance is this?..." he added.
The ED team was attacked in Sandeshkhali village during a raid on the residence of block-level leaders of the ruling TMC in connection to the alleged ration scam case. Two officials sustained injuries, and vehicles were damaged in the incident.
TMC leader Kunal Ghosh attributed the attack to provocation, accusing the central agency of working against his party's leader on BJP's instructions.
In response, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the state chief of Congress and MP, criticised the TMC for a lack of law and order in Bengal and called for the imposition of President's Rule in the state.
"After this brazen attack on ED officials by goons prospering under the patronage of the ruling TMC, it is clear that there is no law and order in Bengal. Today, they were injured. Tomorrow, they could even be murdered. I wouldn't be surprised if that happened," the Congress leader said.
The attack on the ED team has sparked a political slugfest between the TMC and opposition parties. Meanwhile, the governor has said to arrest the absconding TMC leader.
