Illegal Betting App Case: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned former Trinamool Congress MP Mimi Chakraborty and actress Urvashi Rautela in connection with an ongoing investigation into the illegal betting app 1xBet.

Both Rautela and Chakraborty have been asked by ED to appear at the ED’s Delhi Headquarters on September 16, news agency IANS reported.

Details About The Illegal Betting App Case

- The Enforcement Directorate’s summons to Urvashi Rautela and Mimi Chakraborty is a part of its ongoing investigation into the 1xBet illegal betting app case.

- The ED is investigating multiple cases involving illegal betting apps that are accused of defrauding users and investors of crores of rupees and evading large sums in taxes.

- The Central government had recently banned real-money online gaming to curb illegal betting operations.

- According to market analysts and probe agencies, around 22 crore Indians use online betting apps, and about 11 crore of them are regular users.

- The Indian online betting app market is estimated to be worth over USD 100 billion, growing at a rate of 30 per cent annually, NDTV quoted experts as saying.

- The government told Parliament that 1,524 orders were issued between 2022 and June 2025 to block online betting and gambling platforms.

Earlier, the ED had questioned several actors and cricketers in connection with the illegal betting app case. The ED has issued a summons to Rautela and Chakraborty and is likely to investigate their alleged association with 1xBet. 1xBet is an online betting platform accused of money laundering and tax evasion.
