Tripura Assembly Election Result 2023 LIVE Updates: CM Manik Saha Wins From Town Bardowali; BJP Set To Retain Power

CPI(M) candidates have won the election in Bamutia, Barjala, Boxanagar, Kadamtala-Kurti, Hrishyamukh, Khowai, Pratapgarh, Sabroom, Sonamura, and Surma. It is leading in Belonia and Jubarajnagar.

The Congress party has won three seats in Tripura Assembly election including Agartala, Banamalipur, and Kailashahar .

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha has won the Town Bardowali constituency with a margin of 1,257 votes against Congress candidate Ashish Kumar Saha after the end of the 6th and final round of counting of votes.

The BJP has won five combined seats along with its alliance party IPFT. These seats includes Jolaibari, Kamalasagar, Mohanpur, Santirbazar, and Simna.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said, "We had said earlier also that BJP will once again form the government with the majority and the results so far are showing that we are forming the government. I thank PM Modi, Amit Shah, JP Nadda, Rajnath Singh and all party workers."

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday said it was ready to accept all the demands of Tipra Motha, except for Greater Tipraland, if the Pradyot Debbarma-led party extends its support to the saffron party. 

BJP set to return to power in Tripura, as the party crosses majority mark in the 60-seat Assembly, even as counting continues.

Chief Minister Manik Saha was leading against his nearest Congress opponent Ashish Kumar Saha by 344 votes in the town Bardowali constituency.

As per the initial trends, CPI (M) state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury was leading against incumbent BJP MLA Sankar Roy in the Sabroom constituency by 660 votes.

As per the initial trends, Union Minister Pratima Bhowmick is leading by 123 votes in Dhanpur constituency of the state.

As per the early trends, Tripura BJP president Rajib Bhattacharjee is trailing by a margin of 493 votes in the Banamalipur assembly constituency. Vote counting is still going on.

As counting of votes underway, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading on 18 seats in Tripura, the Tipra Motha Party is leading on 12 seats, Communist Party of India (Marxist) is leading on 8 seats and Congress is leading on 5 seats, as per the latest trends by Election Commission of India (ECI).

As counting of votes underway, the ruling BJP-IPFT alliance in Tripura was ahead of the opposition Left-Congress, as per the early trends.

The BJP-IPFT alliance was ahead in 25-36 seats, while the Left-Congress alliance was leading in 11-23 seats. The Tipra Motha led by Pradyot Debbarma was leading on 8-12 seats, early trends showed, as reported by news agency PTI.
 

As per the initial leads in the Tripura Assembly election, BJP and Congress are leading on one seat each. The counting of votes is underway in Tripura.

As many as 60 counting observers have been appointed by the Election Commission to oversee a fair and free count of all assembly constituencies. They arrived on February 28 in Tripura.

As the initial round of voting starts in Tripura, BJP is leading in 21 seats, the Left-Congress alliance is leading in 16 seats while the Tipra Motha is leading in eight seats, as per the latest media reports.

BJP’s candidate from Agartala, Papiya Dutta said that there will be a change in Agartala in this Assembly election. Agartala is considered stronghold of Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman. “I will defeat Sudip Roy Barman. No one is heavyweight, workers are heavyweight,” Barman said.

Counting of votes for Tripura Assembly election is taking place at 21 locations for all the 60 seats. It will decide the fate of all 259 candidates. "There will be around five to eight rounds of counting. The trends are expected to be clear around noon,” the Chief Electoral Officer said.

A prominent leader of the Congress, Sudip Roy Barman said, “You people will be taken aback…we are super confident that Congress-Left will come into power.” Barman is a six-time MLA from Agartala who joined the BJP in 2018 but soon after returned to the Congress party.

The counting of votes begins at 8 am on all 60 Assembly seats in Tripura. The state BJP conducted a puja at party office in Tripura ahead of counting of votes.

“The counting process will commence at 8 am amid tight security. There will be around five to eight rounds of counting. The trends are expected to be clear by noon,” the election official was quoted as saying by PTI.

CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury said the BJP won 36 seats in 2018 Assembly election even though there was a strong wave in favour of it.  "These exit polls have given them more than 40 seats despite the fact that there is no wave in favour of the BJP because of their misrule. The predictions are ridiculous,” Chaudhury said.

The BJP contested on 55 out of total 60 Assembly seats in Tripura and its ally, IPFT, on rest of the seats. Both allies have fielded candidates in the Ampinagar constituency in the Gomati district. 

Chief Minister Manik Saha contested from Town Bardowali constituency and Union minister Pratima Bhowmik fought the polls as BJP candidate from Dhanpur. BJP leaders taked about development of the border state in their election rallies. 

The 2023 Tripura Assembly election witnessed a triangular contest between the Congress-CPM alliance, BJP-IPFT and the Trinamool Congress, which has also fielded candidates in several seats. 

Tipra Motha, a regional party led by Pradyot Debbarma, a member of Tripura's erstwhile royal family, is also expected to make its presence felt. Tipra Motha is contesting the polls on 42 seats of the total 60 assembly segments in the border state.

Votes are set to be counted and results will be out on Thursday for the Assembly poll in Tripura with the keenly-fought battle in the border state marking the first round of polls in an electorally-crucial year. The counting will start at 8 am and the results will be announced later in the day.
