In a fresh development in the Twisha Sharma death case, the Madhya Pradesh government on Wednesday told the High Court that injuries found on the victim's body were ante-mortem and likely caused during a "scuffle or struggle" before her death.
The state appeared before the court in the hearing on several petitions seeking cancellation of the anticipatory bail of her mother-in-law and retired judge Giribala Singh.
The government told the court that Singh and Twisha's husband, Samarth Singh, subjected her to cruelty in the dowry death case.
They allegedly used to taunt her over dowry and tell her that her family didn't spend "enough money on the wedding. Twisha's body had marks of injuries on her wrist, elbow and head, which the government said could have been caused during an argument.
According to a report by News18, the government replied affirmatively when the court asked if the injuries were ante-mortem, adding that the autopsy report recorded such injuries.
The state government also mentioned the chats examined during the investigation that indicated harassment and abuse Twisha faced. The government told the court that Twisha's pregnancy had triggered disputes within the family, adding that some "serious comments" were repeatedly made against her.
Besides, the state also told the high court that Singh was not cooperating with the ongoing probe despite notices being served to her twice, on May 13 and 14.
The state government said that she wasn't home when police visited her, and she was "not joining the probe but has time to portray a narrative in her favour".
