Delhi News: On Friday, January 24, Uber announced that it will provide unlimited free air-conditioned bus rides on its Uber Shuttle service for commuters travelling between Delhi and Gurugram until February 1. This initiative aims to encourage more people to use the service.
Commuters can pre-book their seats up to a week in advance and track the bus’s live location and route via the Uber app. The app also provides an estimated time of arrival (ETA) for each journey. To enhance the quality and safety of the rides, Uber has stated that no standing passengers will be allowed on the buses.
For passenger safety, Uber will offer 24/7 support, including access to a dedicated safety line that can be reached within 30 seconds.
Uber received a license to operate buses in Delhi under the state government’s Delhi Premium Bus Scheme in May 2024. Since launching the Shuttle service last year, the company has reported a positive response from users. Amit Deshpande, Head of Uber Shuttle in India, stated, “Our goal is to get more people travelling in fewer vehicles to tackle traffic congestion and reduce emissions. By offering free rides, we hope commuters will try this new mobility option and discover the benefits of an Uber bus ride, which is affordable, convenient and hassle-free.”
Additionally, in light of ongoing scrutiny regarding fare differences between Android and iOS users, Uber clarified that it does not set prices based on phone manufacturers. The company expressed its willingness to cooperate with the Central Consumer Protection Authority to address any misunderstandings.
