Sena Vs Sena: Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has moved the Supreme Court challenging state Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar's verdict on the cross-petitions filed by the two rival factions of Shiv Sena that had come into existence after the party split in 2022, news broadcaster NDTV reported on Monday.

Last week, Narwekar delivered his verdict in the matterholding that the faction led by current Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is the legitimate successor of the original party. The cross-petitions filed by the Shinde and Uddhav factions of Shiv Sena had sought the disqualification of each other's MLAs.

While delivering his verdict, the Speaker went into great length on the Shiv Sena constitution and said that "decision of Paksha Pramukh cannot be taken as decision of the political party". Hailing the verdict, CM Shinde had said, "Today's result is not the victory of any party but the victory of the Indian Constitution and democracy. This is a victory for the hardworking party workers."

The Maharashtr CM said that it was his aim to save the Shiv Sena from "ideological compromise" and said that it is important to save democracy within the party. "I struggled to save Shiv Sena from ideological compromise for power and disrespect of public opinion. If we want to save India's democracy, we will have to save democracy within the party," Shinde said.
