The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday brushed aside media's questions about the growing string of targeted killings of anti-India terrorists in Pakistan, saying that the government would prefer individuals wanted in connection with terror activities in India to face trial in the country itself.

"Those who are wanted in India to face justice for criminal and terrorist activities, we would like them to come to India and face our legal system but I cannot comment on developments that are taking place in Pakistan," MEA Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi stated. The remarks followed the puported killing of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist Hanzla Adnan alias Adnan Ahmed by unknown gunmen in Pakistan's Karachi earlier this month.

Adnan, who was considered a close aide of LeT chief and 26/11 Mumbai attacks mastermind Hafiz Saeed, was allegedly at the helm of the conspiracy that led to an attack on a Border Security Force (BSF) convoy in Jammu & Kashmir's Udhampur in 2015. Adnan is also believed to have masterminded another attack on security forces in J&K, which resulted in the death of eight Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in 2016.

A few of the recent targeted killings in Pakistan have been publicly blamed on India's external intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW), by the country's authorities. However, Pakistan has not been able to present any concrete evidence to substantiate its claims so far.
