In a heartbreaking incident, Piyush Singh, a 32-year-old dentist from Kamla Nagar, Lucknow, tragically took his own life on Saturday evening after allegedly being subjected to harassment by the family of a woman he had befriended on Snapchat three years ago.
According to Jagran.com, Singh, who had recently completed his internship, injected himself with a lethal substance, leaving behind a suicide note that reportedly blamed the woman’s family for his death.
Singh had initially befriended a woman from Gorakhpur through Snapchat, and the two developed a close relationship. However, when her family discovered the connection, they disapproved and arranged her marriage to another man, which was scheduled for 25 November.
The situation escalated when the woman’s family accused Piyush and his relatives of mistreating her, filing multiple complaints, including one with the 1090 women's helpline.
This harassment reportedly led to Piyush falling into a deep depression. He was particularly fearful of being falsely implicated in legal cases, as the woman's family allegedly threatened to frame him. Just days before his death, Piyush, along with his relatives, visited a police station to express concerns that the woman's family might fabricate charges against him.
On the night of his death, Piyush’s younger brother, Ayush Singh, went to his room around midnight to check on him. To his horror, he found Piyush unconscious on the floor, with a syringe and an empty vial beside him. The family quickly rushed him to Hridyam Hospital in Kamla Nagar, from where he was referred to SN Medical College. Despite efforts to resuscitate him with electric shocks, Piyush was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Following his death, Piyush’s family informed the police about the suicide note, which reportedly blamed the woman’s family for his tragic decision. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) City, Syed Ali Abbas, confirmed that while the family had not yet submitted a formal written complaint, an investigation will proceed once the official complaint is filed.
Piyush's father, Mahipal Singh, a retired assistant engineer from the Hydel department, has expressed profound grief over his son’s untimely passing. Neighbours and friends have also expressed shock, describing the dentist as a well-liked and dedicated professional.
