UTTAR Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) DIG Anant Dev Tiwari on Tuesday said that despite ongoing efforts, the police have not been able to nab Guddu Muslim whose name surfaced following the murder of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed.
He also said that efforts are underway to nab the accused. “We have not been able to arrest Guddu Muslim and Shaista Parveen so far. Efforts are underway. All teams are at it, we will arrest them soon,” DIG Anant Tiwari was quoted as saying by the news agency ANI.
Both Guddu Muslim and Shaista Parveen are co-accused in the Umesh Pal murder case. Other accused of lawyer Umesh Pal’s killing including mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead on Saturday night in Prayagraj in the full media glare.
Earlier on Tuesday, STF IG Amitabh Yash said that Guddu was the most dreaded criminal and he had also been a professional shooter. He also said that Guddu was arrested in 1999 in a drug smuggling case. However, he got bail with the help of Atiq’s lawyers.
”He is a bomb maker. When Umesh Pal was murdered, I identified him (Guddu Muslim) easily on CCTV,” STF Yash said.
Both Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were killed when they were being taken for a medical examination in a hospital in Prayagraj.
The three assailants who were identified as Arun Maurya, Sunny Singh and Luvlesh Tiwari fired around 10-12 bullets at Atiq and his brother while posing as journalists. A local court in Prayagraj has sent the three accused to 14-day judicial custody.
Before being shot, Ashraf’s last words were, “Main baat yeh hai ki Guddu Muslim... (the main point is that Guddu Muslim)”.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said that mafias can not threaten anyone in the state anymore. “Those who were a threat to UP earlier…now UP is a threat to them,” the chief minister said.
Earlier Atiq Ahmed’s son Asad Ahmed was also killed in an encounter by the UP Police, a day before Atiq was killed.
