Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday interacted with his US counterpart Pete Hegseth in the aftermath of a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam. In a telephonic conversation with Singh, the US Secretary of Defence expressed anguish over the killing of 26 civilians in the attack.  

Hegseth, as stated by Singh, backed India’s right to defend itself, reiterating strong support of the US government in India's fight against terrorism. Union Minister Singh also apprised Hegseth about Pakistan’s history of backing terror outfits.

Secretary Hegseth said that the U.S. stands in solidarity with India and supports India’s right to defend itself. He reiterated the strong support of the U.S. government in India's fight against terrorism. During the conversation, RM told the@SecDefthat Pakistan has a history of supporting, training and funding terrorist organisations. He further said that it is important for the global community to explicitly and unequivocally condemn and call out such heinous acts of terrorism,” Defence Minister’s office posted on X.

The relations between India and Pakistan have been going through an extremely rough patch since the misadventure of Islamabad-backed terror outfits in Pahalgam. 

India has categorically conveyed that the barbaric killings would be avenged by severely punishing terrorists and their supporters. PM Modi has been ardently holding meetings with various stakeholders to give a befitting reply to the people behind the April 22 incident. He has given a free hand to Indian Security Forces to decide on the timings, mode and targets.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also warned terrorists that India will "hunt each and every one of them" for killing 26 civilians in Pahalgam.
