The extreme heatwave conditions have affected the live of people across the country. At least 27 personnel on poll duty in Uttar Pradesh's Mirzapur, Azamgarh and Varanasi divisions died on Friday. In Mirzapur alone, 15 personnel including 7 home guards died. Mirzapur District Magistrate Priyanka Niranjan reached the medical college and took stock of the situation. She has also given instructions to investigate the reasons behind so many deaths in one day.

Meanwhile, at least three polling personnel lost their lives in Sonbhadra, Chandauli and Varanasi. A home guard and a female teacher died in Mau and a polling personnel lost life in Ghazipur. Besides these, 48 more people have lost their in Uttar Pradesh. In the last two days, there has been an unexpected increase in the number of deaths in the state.

The health of 22 workers on election duty deteriorated after which three of them were referred to Varanasi. In Mirzapur, 40 polling workers are undergoing treatment in the medical college. In Ghazipur, two policemen on election duty are admitted in the hospital. Most of the patients had high fever, vomiting-diarrhea, high blood pressure and increased sugar.

According to the health department, the actual cause of death will only be ascertained only after the postmortem report. Apart from the personnel on duty, 16 people died in Varanasi, 11 in Sonbhadra, four in Mirzapur, three in Azamgarh, three in Ghazipur, four in Mau, six in Jaunpur and one in Bhadohi. In all the cases, relatives are suspecting death due to heat and heatwave.

Meanwhile, among the home guards who lost their lives in Mirzapur are Bacharam and Ramjiavan from Gonda, Tribhuvan Singh from Prayagraj, Satyaprakash from Basti, Ramkaran from Kaushambi, etc. Polling officer Abdullah Ansari in Varanasi, Oriental Insurance Company clerk Nityanand Pandey from Lucknow, bus driver Santosh Kumar from Sonbhadra and another died.

In Ghazipur, polling officer Pramod Kumar died while going to the polling booth. In Mau, teacher Shahida Bano died in Madrasa Faiz-e-Aam Niswan. In Chandauli, two presiding officers Santosh Kumar of Sultanpur village of Chandauli and Gulab Prasad of Chaturbhujpur died. Homeguard jawan Narendra Kumar who came from Jhansi also died.
