Uttarakhand Weather: Heavy downpours in Uttarakhand’s Dehradun on early Tuesday, caused the Tamsa river to swell dangerously. The IMD has issued a red alert for Dehradun and Tehri Garhwal till 9 AM; districts including Pithoragarh, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital are also under heavy rain alert.

Under the red alert, Dehradun is expected to witness rainfall exceeding 15 mm per hour, with thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching 62–87 km/h. The weather department has also issued heavy rain warnings for Dehradun, Chamoli, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar, Bageshwar, and Nainital, with the risk spreading to other districts.

Uttarakhand Reels Under Heavy Rain Alert: Weather Updates

- Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami over the phone on Tuesday to get a detailed update on the situation arising from heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand.

- Union Home Minister Amit Shah also spoke with the chief minister, according to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office.

- On Monday night, rain lashed Dehradun, forcing the Tamsa river to flood the Tapkeshwar Mahadev temple, where water rose to the Hanuman statue's level though the inner sanctum remained intact.

- With rain not letting up, local authorities have closed all schools (government, private, non-governmental) up to class 12, along with Anganwadi centres, for September 16. The advisory warns that landslides, traffic disruptions, and waterlogging in low-lying areas are likely.

- The National Disaster Alert Portal raised the alarm early Tuesday morning, forecasting severe downpours accompanied by thunderstorms.

- Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inspected a 100-meter-long stretch of road in Maldevta that was destroyed by floodwaters, originating from heavy rains in Sahastradhara area.

- Temple priest Acharya Bipin Joshi said the river “started flowing heavily since morning, and the entire temple premises were submerged.”

- Dramatic images showed the Tamsa river raging and the Tapkeshwar temple under water. Shops were also destroyed in Dehradun, said CM Dhami, as rescue forces including SDRF and police rushed to the worst-affected areas.
