Uttarakhand WeatherA cloudburst in Uttarakhand’s Karligarh Sahastradhara area on Monday night triggered large-scale destruction and chaos. Around 100 people trapped in the area were rescued safely by villagers, while reports suggest one or two may still be missing. The incident occurred around 11:30 pm, causing heavy debris flow in the main market, where two to three hotels and several shops were damaged, submerging houses in Tapovan, Sahastradhara, and the IT Park area.

Rescue efforts by SDRF, NDRF, and the Public Works Department are ongoing, though access to the site has been hampered by debris-blocked roads. JCB machines have been deployed to clear routes, and the district administration has placed all departments on alert.

Temple priest Acharya Bipin Joshi says, "The river started flowing heavily at 5 AM, the entire temple premises were submerged. This kind of situation had not taken place in a very long time. Losses have been incurred at various places... People should avoid going near rivers at this time. The sanctum sanctorum of the temple is safe. No human loss has been reported as of now."

District Magistrate Savin Bansal personally took charge of the situation, coordinating relief operations with multiple departments. SDM Kumkum Joshi also reached the spot to assess damage. The disaster control room reported that teams faced difficulty reaching the location during the night, but efforts are ongoing.

Rescue Operation And River Water Level 

The impact of the cloudburst extended beyond Sahastradhara, with debris reaching near Dehradun’s IT Park, raising the water level of the Song river. Police issued alerts to residents living near the riverbanks and advised them to move to safer places. A large police force, along with NDRF and SDRF, was deployed to the area, and the situation is currently under control with no confirmed loss of life there.

Heavy Rain In Mussoorie

Meanwhile, in Mussoorie’s Jhadipani area, heavy rains caused debris to fall on workers’ kutcha houses late at night. One worker was killed on the spot, while another sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital. Others were evacuated to safety.

In view of continuing heavy rainfall, the India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for parts of Dehradun, Chamoli, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar, Bageshwar, and Nainital. Schools from class 1 to 12 in Dehradun have been declared closed as a precautionary measure.
