A 22-member group from Karnataka lost their way in the mountains due to extreme weather conditions during an expedition to the Sehastrataal in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district, killing five trekkers.

On Wednesday, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) rescued 11 hikers and transported them to the Sahastradhara helipad in Dehradun, with two more remaining at a nearby base camp in the Bhatwadi subdivision of Uttarkashi district.

In addition, the rescue crew retrieved five dead from the incident site. The rescue task is underway to locate and recover the remaining four members of the twenty-two-person trekking team who went missing in the incident.

Due to severe weather, the 22-member crew missed their way and became trapped on the trek to Sahastra Tal in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi. To save the trekkers who are still stuck on the Sahastra Tal trek route, the administration has started air and ground rescue efforts.

Meanwhile, severe weather in this Himalayan region made it impossible for the helicopter rescue team to carry out the rescue mission in the afternoon of this day.

As a result, District Magistrate Dr Meherban Singh Bisht has directed the rescue effort to proceed quickly in the area to save the trekkers who are still alive.
