Gangotri Highway Accident: A major mishap took place in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi on Friday after a landslide hit the vehicles passing on the Gangotri National Highway. The incident took place near Dabrani on the Char Dham Yatra route, after large stones tumbled down the hill slopes hitting several cars and other vehicles. According to Uttarakhand police, several people have been reported buried under the rubble.
According to several reports, one person is feared dead whereas several sustained injuries in the landslide. Police halted the traffic passing on the route as a precautionary measure.
"On receiving information about a stone falling from a hill near Dabrani on Gangotri National Highway and some people being buried under it, Police, SDRF, and NDRF teams are present on the spot, and rescue work is underway. Vehicles have been stopped for security reasons. Vehicles will be released after the route is completely safe," Uttarakhand Police posted on X (formerly Twitter).

District Magistrate Mehrban Singh Bisht has instructed the relief and rescue teams to reach the spot immediately. Three injured people are being taken to the Primary Health Center in Bhatwadi. The police, SDRF, NDRF, and Disaster QRT teams have reached the incident site and are carrying out relief and rescue operations.

According to reports, the Border Roads Organisation is currently constructing the outer side of the road at the accident site. Stones are still falling from the upper hillside at the location.
