Uttarakhand:  After winning the high-octane by-poll in Uttarakhand's Manglaur assembly seat, Congress candidate Qazi Nizamuddin lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party and Pushkar Singh Dhami-led state government, saying that he fought and won the election against the muscle and money power of the ruling government. This comes after Nizamuddin defeated BJP's parachute candidate Kartar Singh Bhadana by a margin of 422 votes in an election nail-biter.

Speaking with the media after he received his winning certificate, the Congress candidate further lambasted the BJP government, alleging misuse of police and state machinery to suppress the voice of people.

"Ye Lath-Tantra Par Loktantra ki jeet hai (This is a win of democracy over autocracy)," he said while speaking with the media.

Nizamuddin's allegations came as many reports surfaced suggesting widespread poll violence during the polling which took place on Wednesday. Many videos of the clash emerged after the polling which showed several Congress workers soaked in blood. Multiple injuries were reported in an altercation during the Manglaur by-polls.

Qazi had accused Congress supporters were stopped from casting their votes and beaten with sticks, resulting in multiple injuries. He further levelled serious allegations on the workers of the ruling BJP, saying that gun-firing was carried out to deter the Congress voters.

A video showed a Uttarakhand cop using foul language against a few voters at a polling booth in Manglaur. However, English Jagran could not independently verify the veracity of the video.

The Manglaur seat fell vacant after the death of incumbent BSP MLA Sarbat Karim Ansari, who died of natural causes. The seat was expected to witness a fierce triangular battle between BJP, Congress and BSP.

In a neck-to-neck fight, Congress's Qazi Nizamuddin won 31,727 votes, while BJP's Kartar Singh Bhadana won 31,305 votes. BJP also lost the Badrinath seat in the state.
