Uttarakhand: A passenger aboard an Alliance Air flight opened the emergency exit door minutes before the take-off, and was later arrested. The 72-seater Alliance Air plane was ready to fly for Varanasi from Pantnagar at its scheduled time of 10:40 am on Tuesday.

The passenger, identified as Akash Kesari, pulled the lever of the emergency gate after which the gate opened. As soon as the door opened, a fellow passenger informed the crew member about it. Following the incident, the people in the flight panicked.

On receiving the information, the airport authority was called and the passenger was handed over to the police present at the airport. The sequence of events led to a delay of about 15 minutes in flight operations.

In another incident, in September last year, a passenger aboard an IndiGo flight tried to open the emergency exit door mid-air. With 180 passengers on board, flight 6E-457 was headed from Guwahati to Agartala.

A man sitting next to the emergency door of the plane tried to open it while the flight was mid-air. Another passenger next to him tried to stop him but he kept trying to open the door.

Flight attendants also rushed to stop him, but he continued his efforts. Panic ensued on the flight, and fellow passengers dragged him towards the seat in order to stop him. The man was later arrested.
