Uttarakhand has become the first state to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), which has been designed to establish a unified set of personal laws governing matters such as marriage, divorce, adoption, inheritance and maintenance for citizens across the state. The notification and online portal for this was launched by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday, fulfilling one of the key promises BJP made in the state ahead of assembly polls.

CM Dhami has become the first person in the state to register his marriage under UCC.

The process to register marriage, live-in relationships and divorce can be done easily by following simple steps at the government’s official portal– ucc.uk.gov.in.

Here Are Steps To Register On UCC Portal:

- Click on the ‘Apply Now’ button to start the registration process.

- Enter your Aadhaar number or virtual ID for verification.

- Agree to the three mandatory no-objection points.

- Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.

- Complete the registration by submitting the required details.

For offline registration, a mobile number can be used instead of Aadhar. The OTP will be sent to the provided number to initiate the registration process.

The portal has the option to make registration in over 23 languages, including Hindi and English. The certificate of the service availed can be downloaded after applying.

The Cabinet had approved the rules manual of UCC on January 20. On January 13, the Uttarakhand government began training its officials to help familiarise them with the portal. Over 230,000 citizens provided feedback, which was incorporated into the 740-page draft presented on 2nd February 2024.
