Uttarakhand Weather: Uttarakhand is bracing for intense weather conditions over the next few days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a red alert for heavy rainfall on August 13 and 14. Several districts, including Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital, Pauri, Champawat, and Bageshwar, are expected to experience extremely heavy downpours.

The forecast has raised concerns about rising river levels and potential landslides in sensitive hilly areas, prompting authorities to advise people to avoid venturing near rivers and streams during this period.

The weather is expected to remain unsettled across much of the state through August 16. An orange alert has been issued for August 15 in districts such as Pithoragarh, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, and Almora.

Uttarakhand Weather Updates
-According to the IMD, some areas may receive up to 180 mm of rainfall in just 24 hours, significantly increasing the risk of flash floods and landslides.
-In anticipation of the severe weather, the State Emergency Operation Centre has instructed all District Magistrates to remain on high alert.
-School closures have been announced in several districts, including Dehradun, Champawat, Uttarkashi, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, and Chamoli, for students up to class 12.

-Trekking and pilgrimage routes have also been affected. The Rudraprayag district administration has suspended the Kedarnath Yatra until August 14, prioritizing the safety of pilgrims.
-In Chamoli, the Hemkund Sahib and Badrinath Yatras have been postponed, and all trekking activities in the district have been banned until August 15.
-Neighbouring Himachal Pradesh is also under weather watch, with Shimla and Sirmaur identified as having a ‘low to moderate’ risk of flash floods. Though the intensity of rainfall there may be less severe compared to Uttarakhand, authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant.
