Uttarakhand Weather: After two days of steady downpours, Dehradun finally saw the sun break through on Friday, bringing a hot and humid day across the city. But just as residents began to feel the heat, a sudden spell of heavy rain in the evening swept through, offering much-needed relief and cooling things down. Despite the brief sunshine, the weather is far from settled.
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Saturday in Dehradun, Bageshwar, and Nainital, warning of possible isolated heavy showers, thunder, and lightning.
Across the rest of Uttarakhand, the recent spell of intense rainfall has started to ease. While clouds continue to hang over both the hills and plains, glimpses of sunshine are gradually returning in many areas, nudging daytime temperatures slightly higher.
In the plains, including Dehradun, temperatures soared above 33 degrees C on Friday, making the day feel especially sticky and uncomfortable. However, a strong burst of rain in the evening lasting around half an hour in several parts of the city brought instant relief and made for a cooler, more pleasant night.
According to the Met office, thunderstorms and heavy rain are likely to hit isolated areas in Dehradun, Bageshwar, and Nainital on Saturday. While a yellow alert has been specifically issued for these districts, other parts of the state could also experience scattered showers and thunderstorm activity. Overall, skies are expected to remain partly cloudy in most regions.
