Uttarakhand Weather Update: Uttarakhand is set to experience a shift in weather patterns starting June 11, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for several districts. After a spell of dry conditions, the hilly state will witness light to moderate rain and thunderstorms, particularly in regions like Nainital, Champawat, Almora, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, and Chamoli.

Thunderstorms may be accompanied by lightning, heavy spells of rain, and gusty winds reaching 40–50 km/h in select areas.

As per recent IMD data, maximum temperatures remained normal across the plains and ranged from normal to below normal in the hills of Uttarakhand. Minimum temperatures were recorded as normal to slightly above normal in the plains. Pantnagar in Udham Singh Nagar registered the highest maximum temperature at 37.6 degrees C, while the lowest minimum temperature of 13.9 degrees C was recorded in Mukteshwar, Nainital.

Rain Alert From June 11; Yellow Warning Issued

According to the IMD, districts under the yellow alert from June 11 includes Nainital, Champawat, Almora, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, and Chamoli.

On June 11, rain and thunderstorm activity is likely in several places across the Kumaon region and isolated areas of Garhwal. Weather officials also predict gusty winds and lightning in vulnerable areas, urging people to stay alert.

Dry Spell Until June 10

The state will continue to see dry weather conditions until June 10. Both June 8 and 9 are expected to remain dry across all districts. On June 10 as well, no significant rainfall is expected. However, a noticeable shift will begin from June 11 onward, especially in hilly areas.

Rain Forecast For Uttarakhand; Rain to Intensify from June 12

June 12: Heavy to moderate rain and thunderstorms are expected at many places in the Kumaon hills and a few locations in Garhwal and Udham Singh Nagar. IMD has issued a yellow alert for all 13 districts of Uttarakhand — Almora, Bageshwar, Chamoli, Champawat, Dehradun, Haridwar, Nainital, Pauri Garhwal, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag, Tehri Garhwal, Udham Singh Nagar, and Uttarkashi.

Isolated heavy rainfall is likely in Nainital, Champawat, and Pithoragarh. Thunderstorms with intense rain and winds up to 50 km/h may occur. IMD has issued yellow alert for all the districts.

June 13: Isolated rain and thunderstorm activity is expected in Haridwar district.

June 14: Rainfall is forecast to increase across the state, with most districts likely to receive light to moderate showers.

Overall Weather Trends Across India

While Uttarakhand braces for storms, southern India continues to experience a strong monsoon phase. The IMD has warned of very heavy rainfall in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala from June 10 onwards. Residents are advised to exercise caution due to possible flooding and storm-related disruptions.

North India (excluding Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand) remains under the grip of an intense heatwave. Western Rajasthan, in particular, will see high temperatures from June 8 to 11.

Residents are urged to stay updated with weather bulletins, avoid travel to vulnerable hilly regions during heavy rainfall days, and be cautious of potential landslides or flooding, especially in high-alert districts like Nainital, Pithoragarh, and Champawat.
