Uttarakhand Weather Update: The weather conditions in the hilly state of Uttarakhand have taken a turn with clouds covering the sky from the mountains to the plains. The IMD has issued a yellow alert in the state for Sunday and an orange alert for Monday.
Although the temperature in the plains remained higher than normal due to bright sunlight, it dropped in the hilly areas. In the latest forecast, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that heavy rainfall, hailstorms, and thunderstorms are expected in most areas of the state for the next three days, starting Sunday.
Yellow alert
The meteorological center has issued a yellow alert for isolated areas of Haridwar, Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, and Nainital are likely to experience thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 km per hour, and intense to very intense rainfall on Sunday.
Orange alert
On Monday, an orange alert has been issued by the weather department for heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places, snowfall on peaks, hailstorm and very intense to extremely intense spells of rain in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Dehradun and Haridwar.
Apart from that, there is a possibility of hailstorms and heavy rain in isolated areas of Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Tehri, Pauri, and Nainital districts. Heavy rain is also possible on Tuesday. The mercury is also expected to drop during this time.
Weather observed today
On Saturday, Dehradun and the surrounding areas experienced sunny mornings, but clouds began to gather in the afternoon. Drizzle was also recorded in some areas. Mountainous regions remained partly cloudy throughout the day. In Kumaon, there were isolated heavy showers.
