Vaishno Devi Yatra: The inclement weather conditions have once again forced the postponement of the pilgrimage to the Vaishno Devi Shrine in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district.

The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board on Saturday announced the suspension, citing safety concerns for devotees as adverse weather conditions continue to hit the yatra.

The announcement came a day before the yatra was supposed to resume following a temporary suspension over weather conditions.

When will yatra resume?

The latest suspension is announced due to incessant rainfall and will stay until further notice. Making the announcement, the shrine board said, "Due to incessant rain at Bhawan & the track, commencement of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra scheduled from 14th September stands postponed till further order."

The shrine board has urged the devotees to stay updated through official communication channels.

Yatra suspended since over two weeks

The yatra was initially suspended hours before a landslide on August 26 that claimed the lives of 34 people and left 20 injured. The shrine board suspended the yatra after the weather department warned of cloudburst or landslide like natural disaster due to heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor and the chairman of the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Manoj Sinha  had clarified the same by saying that the Yatra was stopped before the cloudburst hit the track at Adhkuwari.

It has been over two weeks, and the yatra has once again been suspended till further notice, leaving devotees in disarray. The massive landslide, triggered by heavy rainfall, hit the trek at around 3:00 PM on August 26. The landslide hit the trek near the Inderprastha Bhojnalaya at Adhkuwari, which is halfway between Katra and holy shrine atop Trikuta Hill.
