Vande Bharat Sleeper Coach Commercial Launch Delayed

In a separate development, the much-anticipated launch of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train has been postponed, with the Indian Railways Ministry citing several unresolved issues related to interior furnishings, design specifications, and safety compliance. Originally scheduled for an October 2025 rollout, the premium sleeper variant of the Vande Bharat series will now undergo further review and modifications before entering service.

According to a PTI report, the Railway Board flagged several concerns regarding the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train’s interior quality and workmanship to the Director General of the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) and the General Managers of all railway zones.

The board noted issues such as sharp edges and corners near the berthing area, poorly designed window curtain handles, and “pigeon pockets” between berth connectors that could lead to cleaning difficulties. It directed officials to take corrective measures in the existing rake and implement necessary design improvements in future rakes.
