Bengaluru-Mangaluru Vande Bharat Express: Indian Railways is set to introduce the much-awaited Vande Bharat Express on the Bengaluru-Mangaluru route, a move that promises to significantly reduce travel time and enhance the overall travel experience for passengers. This high-speed train service is expected to cut down the journey time to just 5 hours, a major improvement from the current 9-10 hour travel time.

The Vande Bharat Express is part of a larger initiative to upgrade Karnataka's railway infrastructure. The central government has earmarked a budget of approximately Rs 50,000 crore for the development of the state’s rail network. It will significantly upgrade connectivity between Bengaluru, the state capital, and Mangaluru, a key coastal city in Karnataka. Currently, passengers taking express and mail trains endure a long and tiring journey through the Western Ghats, often spending the better part of a day travelling between the two cities.

Beyond Bengaluru and Mangaluru, several other towns and districts will benefit from the Vande Bharat Express. The train will improve connectivity to important hubs like Tumakuru and Hassan, which are located along the railway corridor. The faster service will be especially beneficial for daily commuters, traders, and professionals who frequently travel along the route.

The introduction of the Vande Bharat Express will also provide a more efficient option for devotees travelling to Coastal Karnataka’s major pilgrimage centres, such as those in Udupi, Kundapura, and Murudeshwar. With its modern amenities and reduced travel time, the Vande Bharat Express will offer a more comfortable and convenient alternative to existing train services.

Bengaluru- Mangaluru Vande Bharat Express: When will it run?

The launch of the Vande Bharat Express is closely linked to the electrification of the ghat section between Sakaleshpura and Subrahmanya Road, which spans approximately 55 km. This stretch of the route, known for its challenging terrain, has long been a bottleneck for faster rail services.

According to V Somanna, the Union Minister of State for Railways, the electrification of this section is nearing completion. Once the electrification work is fully finished, it will allow high-speed electric trains like the Vande Bharat Express to operate efficiently through the Western Ghats. This will not only improve the speed of trains but also ensure greater reliability and punctuality for travellers.
