Common passengers will be provided with several special facilities on the country's first Vande Bharat Sleeper Express train, which recently commenced operations between Howrah and Guwahati (Kamakhya). A key feature of this train is that there will be no VIP quota for reservations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off this train from Malda on Saturday during his recent visit to Bengal.
A Train For The Common Man: No Passes Allowed
According to official railway sources, India's first Vande Bharat Sleeper train will be entirely dedicated to the common people. There will be no VIP or emergency quota available. Furthermore, even senior railway officials will not be entitled to travel on the Vande Bharat Sleeper using their railway passes. The train will feature transparent ticketing and equal rules for everyone.
Only Confirmed Tickets To Be Issued
Passengers travelling on the Vande Bharat Sleeper train will only be provided with confirmed tickets. This will eliminate the hassle of the waiting list completely. Furthermore, RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) tickets will not be available on this train. This move is being viewed as another step by the Modi government towards ending 'VIP culture' to enhance convenience for common passengers.
No Scope For HO Quota
It is worth noting that in other trains, a specific quota is reserved for ministers, MPs, and senior railway officials. Under this system, waitlisted tickets are often confirmed on their recommendation under the HO Quota (High Official or Head Office Quota) shortly before the final chart is prepared. The new system aims to bypass this practice completely.
Coach Composition And Amenities
The Vande Bharat Sleeper train will consist of 11 Third AC coaches, four Second AC coaches, and one First AC coach. It will have a total of 823 berths. This includes 611 seats in Third AC, 188 in Second AC, and 24 in First AC. Among its other distinct features, passengers travelling on this train will be served local cuisine.
