Vande Bharat Train Booking: In a major relief for passengers traveling on Vande Bharat trains in the Southern Railway zone, ticket booking just became easier and more flexible. Commuters on eight specific Vande Bharat Express routes can now book their tickets up to 15 minutes before the train arrives at their station, thanks to a recent update in the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) by Indian Railways.

The move aims to streamline ticketing and boost occupancy on these high-speed trains by allowing bookings till 15 minutes before arrival. This was previously restricted, making it difficult for last-minute travelers to get seats if they missed booking before the departure.

According to the Indian Railways, 144 Vande Bharat Express trains currently operate across the country, and most are running at full capacity. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that these trains consistently maintain over 100 percent occupancy.

However, this new booking flexibility currently applies only to Vande Bharat Express trains originating from the Southern Railway (SR) zone.

“For the 8 Vande Bharat trains originating from Southern Railway, current reservations can be done at en route stations up to 15 minutes before the departure,” the zonal railway said in a statement to Indian Express.

The facility will benefit passengers by offering vacant seats for current bookings at intermediate stations, making travel more accessible and efficient.
