Shibu Soren Death News: Shibu Soren, former Jharkhand Chief Minister, passed away at Delhi's Sir Ganga Ram Hospital at the age of 81. Soren was suffering from kidney-related diseases and also had suffered a stroke a few weeks back. Soren's death was confirmed by Jharkhand Chief Minister and his son Hemant Soren. While providing details, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital stated that Soren was on life support for the last month. Jharkhand government has announced a three day state mourning.
"Shibu Soren was declared dead at 8:56 am today. He died after a prolonged illness. He was suffering from a kidney ailment, and had suffered a stroke, a month and a half back. He was on the life support system for the last one month," Sir Ganga Ram Hospital informed in its statement.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Hemant Soren expressed his grief by sharing the news to the world. "Beloved Dishom Guruji has left us. I lost everything today," Soren stated in his post. Apart from this, several prominent politicians, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi also reacted to Soren's death.
"Shri Shibu Soren Ji was a grassroots leader who rose through the ranks of public life with unwavering dedication to the people. He was particularly passionate about empowering tribal communities, the poor and downtrodden. Pained by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family and admirers. Spoke to Jharkhand CM Shri Hemant Soren Ji and expressed condolences. Om Shanti," PM Modi stated in his post on X.
Soren had played a major role in the formation of Jharkhand and was known for his fiery speeches, mostly in favour of tribals and forests. He spent nearly four decades in politics and was elected to the Lok Sabha eight times and also served as a Rajya Sabha MP for two terms. Along with leftist trade union leader AK Roy and Kurmi Mahato leader Binod Bihari Mahato, Soren had formed JMM in 1972.
