Vande Bharat Express Update: In a major update for passengers, the Indian Railways has decided to upgrade the Vande Bharat trains with more coaches.
The Vande Bharat trains will be upgraded on seven operational routes, as there is high occupancy and demand continues to rise. Additionally, the upgraded trains will also be introduced on several new routes.
Which 7 Vande Bharat will be upgraded?
The Railway Board has decided to upgrade the following trains:
-Mangaluru Central-Thiruvananthapuram Central Vande Bharat Express
-Secunderabad–Tirupati Vande Bharat Express
-Chennai Egmore–Tirunelveli Vande Bharat Express
-Madurai–Bengaluru Cantt Vande Bharat Express
-Deoghar–Varanasi Vande Bharat Express
-Howrah– Rourkela Vande Bharat Express
-Indore–NagpurVande Bharat Express

Coach upgradation plan
As part of the upgrade, four 8-car Vande Bharat trains will be increased to 16-car, and three 16-car trains will be increased to 20-car capacity.
Dilip Kumar, Executive Director, Information and Publicity, Railway Board, said, "The 16-car train will be upgraded to 20-car and those having 8-car will be increased to 16-car".
"On the basis of occupancy for Financial Year 2025-26 (up to 31.07.2025) and feasibility for augmentation, a tentative augmentation of three 16-car Vande Bharat train services with 20-car and four 8-Car Vande Bharat train with 16-car has been planned," he added.

The Board officials further stated that besides these upgrades, a few more 20-car Vande Bharat trains will be launched soon, and one 16-car train will be available for augmentation.
"A tentative replacement plan for the Vande Bharat train service is planned on the basis of occupancy. After this, the released rakes (trains) of 16-car and 8-Car will be utilized for running new services,” Kumar said.
