Major Stampede In India In 2025: A stampede broke out today at the Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Kashibugga, Srikakulam district, Andhra Pradesh during Ekadashi celebrations, killing nine people, including two children, and leaving several others injured. Authorities said the incident occurred when the large crowd surged toward the temple, leading to chaos and panic.

Events such as Kumbh Mela or the Karur Rally have seen chaos and casualties due to inadequate crowd management and safety measures, highlighting persistent concerns over public safety at large gatherings.

Here’s A List Of Tragic Stampedes In India This Year

Karur Rally Stampede (September 27)

- A tragic stampede at a political rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, presided by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor-turned-politician Vijay, claimed 41 lives, including three children, and injured more than 50 others.

- The rally drew thousands of supporters into narrow roads since morning without proper arrangements. Panic erupted amid congestion, triggering the fatal stampede.

- According to the authorities, the lack of adequate safety measures and poor crowd management contributed to the tragedy.

Bengaluru Parade Stampede (June 4)

- At least 11 people were killed and over 50 were injured in a stampede at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, during Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)’s victory celebrations following their maiden IPL title win against Punjab Kings.

- The tragedy was a result of poor crowd management as thousands of fans surged to celebrate the historic win.

Jagannath Rath Yatra Stampede (June 29)

- A tragic stampede broke out on June 29 this year during the Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri, leaving at least three people dead and around 50 others injured.

- Lack of crowd control, inadequate security arrangements, narrow passageways, and insufficient policing or gating led to the stampede.

New Delhi Railway Station Stampede (February 15)

- A stampede at New Delhi Railway Station claimed the lives of at least 18 people, including five children, and injured more than a dozen others.

- The tragedy occurred when a sudden surge of passengers tried to board trains to Prayagraj for the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela, causing chaos.

- On the foot-overbridges linking two platforms, some passengers slipped while descending, triggering panic that resulted in a deadly stampede.

Maha Kumbh Stampede (January 29)

- Authorities stated that the fatal incident occurred as a large crowd of pilgrims gathered to take a sacred dip on the auspicious day.
