Vijay Rupani Death: The Air India plane bound for London, which lost altitude soon after take- off, crashed into residential quarters of BJ Medical College doctors in Ahmedabad's Meghaninagar area, causing severe damage to buildings in the premises. Several people living in the residential quarters located near the Ahmedabad airport were injured in the crash.
Confirming his death BJP leader and party spokesperson Sambit Patra published a post on X, expressing his condolences.
"The news of the tragic demise of former chief minister of Gujarat and senior member of the BJP family, Vijay Rupani ji, in the unfortunate plane crash in Ahmedabad is extremely painful and heart-wrenching. His departure is an irreparable loss not only for Gujarat but for the entire Indian politics. May Mahaprabhu Jagannath Ji grant the departed soul a place in his lotus feet and provide patience and strength to the bereaved family and supporters in this difficult time. Om Shanti," his post read.

Who Was Vijay Rupani?
Rupani was one of senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader in Gujarat. He served the state as the 16th chief minister from 2016 to 2021. Born on August 2, 1956, in Yangon, Myanmar, to a Jain Bania family, Rupani moved to Rajkot, with his family in 1960 due to political instability in Burma. He represented Rajkot West in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly. In the Gujarat Assembly elections 2022, the BJP denied him a ticket. Since, he had not been politically so active in the state.
Rupani's Early Life And Education
The former CM, who holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dharmendrasinhji Arts College and an LLB from Saurashtra University, was a partner in the trading firm Rasiklal & Sons, founded by his father.
He started as a student activist with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and later became a prominent figure in the Gujarat BJP.
Rupani's wife, Anjali Rupani, is a member of the BJP women's wing, and he survived by three children.
