A man set a wine shop on fire after he was denied alcohol in Andhra Pradesh’s Visakhapatnam on Sunday. The accused, identified as Madhu, poured petrol inside the shop and on the staff members and lit the fire, causing damage worth more than Rs 1.5 lakh, reported news agency ANI.

The incident occurred in Madurwada police station area when the accused came to the wine shop in the Madurwada area, but the shop staff refused to give him alcohol as it was closing time. This led to an argument between Madhu and the staff, who warned him to leave. However, Madhu returned to the shop on Sunday evening with a petrol tank and carried out the arson attack.

The staff managed to escape from the shop, but the shop was burned and several items, including a computer and printer, were destroyed.

Police have registered a case against the accused under Sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 436 (mischief by fire) of the Indian Penal Code and took him into custody. Meanwhile, an investigation is underway to get the details of the case, Inspector Rama Krishna of Pothinamallayya Palem police station said.
