Jagran group's internationally awarded and trusted fact-checking wing, Vishvas News has rolled out its WhatsApp Channel as tech giant Meta announced the launch of the feature which will be a one-way broadcast tool to privately receive updates from people and organisations that users choose, within the closed messaging service.
Users can subscribe to channels without revealing their number or identifying information. The announcement, made by Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg, described the service as "a simple, reliable, and private way to receive important updates from people and organisations, right within WhatsApp".
Channels will be available in a new tab called Updates - where users will find Status and channels.
To help users select channels to follow, WhatsApp is building a searchable directory where users can find channels of their choice including the Vishvas News channel that will offer the latest fact-checks, explainer videos and updates on misinformation that keep users informed and thus, help them protect against scams and misleading and harmful claims.
