Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra on Monday took to X, formerly Twitter, to post 2019 vs 2024 pictures with some of the Opposition women Lok Sabha MPs as the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha began today. “Warriors are back,” Moitra shared the pictures with this caption.

The throwback picture from 2019 featured MPs Moitra, Kanimozhi, Supriya Sule, Jothimani, and Thamizhachi Thangapandian, sitting on a bench in Lok Sabha, while the latest picture includes new Lok Sabha MP Dimple Yadav.
Moitra represents the Krishnanagar constituency in West Bengal whereas Kanimozhi represents Tamil Nadu's Thoothukkudi seat. The other MPs, Supriya Sule, Jothimani, Thamizhachi Thangapandian, and Dimple Yadav, represent Maharashtra's Baramati constituency, Tamil Nadu's Karur seat, Chennai South seat, and Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri seat, respectively.
A total of 74 women have won the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, a slight dip from 78 elected in 2019. Out of the total women MPs elected to the Lok Sabha, 11 are from Mamata Banerjee-ruled West Bengal.
Notably, the 18th Lok Sabha session began on Monday with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other Cabinet ministers taking oath as members of Parliament. Pro-tem speaker Bhartruhari Mahtab, a seven-time MP, administered the oath to the new members of the House. The election for the Lok Sabha speaker will be held on June 26.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the media and said that the country expects good steps from the opposition. “I hope that the opposition will live up to the expectations of the common citizens of the country to maintain the dignity of democracy. People do not want drama or disturbance. People want substance, not slogans. The country needs a good opposition, a responsible opposition and I have full faith that the MPs who have won in this 18th Lok Sabha will try to fulfil these expectations of the common man,” PM Modi said.
However, the Opposition INDIA bloc, which stopped the BJP from crossing the majority mark of 272 in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls, expressed dissatisfaction over the appointment of BJP MP Bhartruhari Mahtab as the pro-tem Speaker.
