Wayanad Landslide: The death toll in the Wayanad landslide reached 123 on Tuesday, reported PTI citing government sources. Meanwhile, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan described the disaster as one of the worst ever witnessed in the state and said that the catastrophe has resulted in the loss of 108 lives, with 128 individuals injured and receiving treatment in various hospitals.

The toll is likely to increase as several people are injured, buried or missing. In the wake of the incident, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) District Headquarters (Kerala & Mahe) and ICG Station Beypore have dispatched Disaster Relief Teams (DRT) to the affected area. The teams are mobilized to provide immediate relief and support to the communities impacted by the disaster.

The relief team comprises highly trained ICG personnel and a dedicated medical team and is carrying essential disaster relief materials such as Rubber inflatable boats for rescue operations, Diesel-driven pumps to manage water and drainage issues, Life jackets for safety, Raincoats and gum boots for personnel protection in adverse weather conditions and other earth-clearing implements for clearing debris and accessing affected areas.

Wayanad Landslide: Let's take a look at what has happened so far:

- The rescue operation has been paused for today, July 30, with the death toll currently standing at 123 and the number of injured people at 123. 

- As many as 3,069 people are in 45 relief camps in Wayanad alone and as many as five ministers are coordinating the efforts of the relief and rescue operations, informed CM Pinarayi Vijayan.

- "The landslide in Wayanad is a heart-wrenching disaster. There was extremely heavy rainfall. An entire area has been wiped out. We have recovered 93 bodies so far, but the numbers may change. There are 128 people receiving treatment for injuries. Many who went to sleep last night have been swept away," said the CM.

- Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of the deceased in multiple landslides that hit Kerala's Wayanad on Tuesday.

- Kerala State Disaster Management Authority Secretary Sekar Kuriakose said on Tuesday that the rescue of lives in the landslides that hit the Meppadi area of Kerala's Wayanad is coordinated and they have sufficient forces.

- Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai said that more than 250 people have been evacuated to a safer location and 300 personnel have been deployed for rescue operations. PM Modi has been keeping a stock of the situation, he said.

- An eyewitness broke out in tears recounting the incident as he said after the landslide took place, he could only watch helplessly as his mother and his sister were washed away as he clung to a window for safety.

The Chief Minister said that he had received calls from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, and West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose, and all pledged their full support for the state.

The India Meteorological Department on Tuesday issued a red alert for the mountain district of Wayanad -- which has been rocked by landslides triggered by incessant rains -- and all the northern districts of Kerala, indicating that extremely heavy rainfall is expected in these regions.
