Weather In Chennai: According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, a north-south trough extending into north Tamil Nadu is likely to bring a dip in maximum temperatures by 2-3 degrees Celsius from Tuesday, April 1 to April 5. The weather department has forecast scattered rainfall over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, with showers expected to cover up to 50 per cent of the weather stations between Wednesday, April 2 and Saturday, April 5. From April 6 onwards, isolated rainfall is expected, affecting only one or two locations.

P Senthamarai Kannan, Director of the Area Cyclone Warning Centre, RMC, Chennai, explained that the extent of rainfall will depend on the movement of the trough and its interaction with other minor weather systems. Despite some uncertainty over the exact spread of showers, the overall trend suggests cooler days ahead.

Tamil Nadu Weather In April

Chennai and several parts of Tamil Nadu are in for a relatively mild start to April, with temperatures expected to drop slightly and light to moderate rainfall predicted in some areas. The first week of the month may offer a welcome break from the scorching summer heat After experiencing rising temperatures in recent weeks, interior parts of Tamil Nadu—many of which had been reeling under sweltering conditions—can expect some relief.

On Monday, the mercury remained close to normal across most parts of the State. Karur Paramathi recorded the highest temperature of the day at 38°C, while Chennai’s Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam weather stations registered slightly below-normal temperatures of 33.2 degrees Celsius and 34.5 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Chennai Weather Forecast

The city’s temperature is expected to hover around 34-35 degrees Celsius in the coming days, with partly cloudy skies dominating the week. Here’s what residents can expect:

Tuesday (April 2): Maximum of 34°C, partly cloudy skies, with light rain possible in some areas.
Wednesday (April 3): A slight drop in temperature (33-34°C), with light to moderate rain likely in parts of the city.

Thursday (April 4): A further dip to 33-34°C, with increased chances of thunderstorms and lightning.

Friday (April 5): The rain may ease, but temperatures will remain around 34°C under partly cloudy skies.

Weekend (April 6-7): The city will likely see stable weather, with temperatures ranging from 34-35 degrees Celsius and no significant rainfall expected.

While Chennai is not expected to experience a drastic temperature drop, the slight dip in mercury and occasional showers should bring some relief from the early summer heat. The mix of cloudy skies and sporadic rainfall will make for a relatively comfortable start to April before temperatures gradually climb again. Residents are advised to keep an umbrella handy over the next few days, particularly between April 3 and 5, when thunderstorms and lightning may accompany showers.
